Why Auditable Knowledge Bases Matter Right Now

Teams are drowning in internal documents. A single due-diligence project can involve five thousand emails, hundreds of PDFs, and months of chat history. When someone asks a question, the fastest answer today is to paste a folder into a general-purpose AI assistant and hope the summary is right. It usually sounds right. That is exactly the problem.

Existing tools were not built for accountability. Retrieval-augmented chatbots return "relevant snippets," not the specific sentence a conclusion came from. Summarizers compress away the provenance that auditors need. Enterprise eDiscovery platforms do preserve sources, but they cost tens of thousands per year and take weeks to onboard, so small legal and audit teams simply skip them and accept the risk. The gap between "cheap but unverifiable" and "verifiable but unaffordable" is where most knowledge work now lives.

The timing is not accidental. A recent Show HN discussion about compiling forty-five thousand Enron emails into a fully cited wiki drew intense interest, and a second project shipping a similar "wiki compiler" appeared the same day. That is a category forming in public. Buyers in legal, compliance, and internal audit already feel the pain of AI hallucinations and cannot defend a report that says "the model told me so." They need a deliverable they can hand to a partner with a citation on every line.

How It Works

1

Ingest your document set

Drop in a folder or zip of PDFs, .eml files, plain text and markdown. CiteWiki parses each file, splits it into addressable chunks, and keeps the filename, timestamp and line position attached to every fragment.

2

Compile and cluster topics

A language model groups related chunks into themes and drafts factual statements, but it is required to return the source chunk id for every claim. Anything it cannot ground in a real passage is flagged as unverified instead of invented.

3

Read with clickable citations

You get a single-page wiki with a table of contents on the left and the body on the right. Each fact ends in a superscript link that jumps to the highlighted original passage, so any reader can verify a claim in one click.

What You Get

Fact-level citations

Every statement in the generated wiki carries a numbered citation that links back to the exact email, page or line it came from. Reviewers can audit a conclusion in seconds instead of re-reading the whole archive.

Coverage badge

A header badge reports how many facts were grounded and how many remain unverified, so you always know the confidence level of a report before it leaves your desk or reaches a client.

Exportable audit trail

Download the finished wiki as a document with a citation appendix attached, ready to hand to a partner, auditor or client. The trail stays intact, so the reasoning
